(Update: Jan 5th, 2011)

到古巴去旅游,什么样的护照才算有效护照呢?无论是加拿大还是古巴的政府官方网站都是这样说的:“ The passport must be valid for at least one month beyond the date of your expected departure from Cuba.”"a valid passport (it does not matter the nationality) for at least 1 month after the visit to Cuba" 即在你离开古巴时你的护照有效期应在一个月以上。

It is the sole prerogative of each country or region to determine who is allowed to enter.” 即:决定是否允许谁可以入境,完全属于接待国或接待地区的特权。

Passports and Visas

A valid Canadian passport is required for Canadians intending to visit Cuba. The passport must be valid for at least one month beyond the date of your expected departure from Cuba. Canadians must also carry a tourist card (or visa), or a business or student visa. The tourist card is generally provided by tour operators or airlines, or can be obtained from a Cuban government office in Canada in the case of privately organized flights. It can also be purchased at certain airports in Canada.

Tourist card or visa: Required
Personal visa: Required
Business visa: Required
Student visa: Required

Visitors are prohibited from undertaking business activities when travelling on a tourist visa.

Travellers intending to stay at a private residence or do business while in Cuba should check with the Cuban government office in Canada prior to their departure.

Canadian tourists who were born in Canada may stay in Cuba for up to six months, but must check in with immigration authorities or with a tourism office in Cuba prior to the 90th day of their stay to apply for an extension. Canadian tourists who were born outside Canada may be treated differently by Cuban officials and may be informed that they can only stay for 30 days, even though they are travelling on a Canadian passport.

Tourist card

The procedure is very easy: every person going to Cuba as a tourist only needs a valid passport (it does not matter the nationality) for at least 1 month after the visit to Cuba and a tourist card (it works as a visa) that can be obtained from a travel agency when booking a trip to Cuba or bought at the airport of Toronto or Montreal here in Canada before going to Cuba. Some airlines sale the tourist cards: Cubana Airlines, Lacsa, Copa, etc. If you book a flight to Cuba with Air Canada, the card is included on the price of the plane ticket and it would be hand it to you once you are on the plane.

If you are a Canadian citizen, the valid passport to enter to Cuba is the Canadian passport, issued by Passport Canada.?

If you apply for your tourist card here at the Embassy you can do it personally. Bring your passport, the tourist card form (which you can download here...) and cash or a money order for $24.00 CAD. It can be done in one day. You can also do it by regular mail. That is a very quick procedure, a couple of days maximum. You should send the form, a money order for $56.00 CAD ($24.00 for the tourist card and $32.00 for non-in-person procedure fee), a photocopy of the main page of your passport, and a prepaid envelope so we can send it back to you together with the receipt.

The tourist card allows its holder to stay in Cuba for 90 days from the date of entry into the country, and is valid for 1 entry into Cuba. For a stay of more than 90 days, one can request an extension of another 3 months at any tourism office in Cuba, for a maximum stay of 6 months. Children, regardless of their age, also require a tourist card, even if they are registered on their parents' passports.

Note that a tourist card is only applicable when you are staying at a hotel or at a private house legally renting in Cuba. If you want to stay at a friend’s place you should apply for a Personal Visa.
